Farm-to-urban residency [PROGRAM concluded]

Farm-to-Urban was the partner residency of ArtsUP! Concepts. The residency brought to the foreground the artists' critical acknowledgment of diverse communities and environments spanning rural Dade and urban Broward Counties.

Visiting artists had an opportunity to qualify for placement at the residency. The residency exposed the visiting artist to a lot more than the immediate environment of “trendy” urban art districts in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Awareness of the diverse non-art community ArtsUP! serves is critical to creating exhibitions with relevant inclusive-value. Physically traversing Miami proper and the many shifting communities spanning the 48-mile distance to Fort Lauderdale allowed for the resident artist to learn empathy/understanding of the land and its people. An understanding that could not be achieved unless witnessed and explored.
